Nokia N91, E70 approved by FCC

Nokia's long-awaited hard drive-equipped N91 just got a step closer to a US release, with FCC approval. Among the confirmed features revealed in the phones manual are the abilities to use PlaysForSure DRM, function in mass storage mode, use songs as ringtones and download music directly from online music stores. The phone has a 4GB hard drive, a 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, WiFi, UPnP support and runs on Symbian 9.1. The FCC also approved the E70, a business-oriented phone with a QWERTY keyboard. No word, of course, on when/if these will actually be released in the US.

Put these two phones together with Nokia's new email service or similar offerings from the likes of Visto and you start to have real alternatives to RIM's Blackberry and Palm's Treos.

The business community, afraid of patent issues between RIM and NTP will likely look at these devices seriously.

While DRM on a music file is not a feature, the ability to playback DRM files is certainly a feature. A big one for me, this just might replace my Zen Micro.

Yahoo Unlimited rules, and iPod not being able to playback subscription files is just about the only reason i didnt buy when and went for creative instead.

looks good but not as good as sony erikson that was on here yesterday. nokia really needs to take some lessons in design. the japanese and koreans are trouncing all over them these days. all nokia got left for them is a stable phone OS and a strong user base.
