Really old video... but nonetheless still awesome. Try owning one of those in a major city though. Get a Mig-29 and the cops might call the Air Force thinking they're under attack.
COOLEST TOY EVER!!! but i agree with the first post wow... what if all of a sudden your flying it and DING.. out of fuel... *cold sweat*... if there was a way to build in a camera to the cockpit looking out, and like a virtual headset, that would be awesome.
Yeah this video's been floating around for several years now, but it's still freakin' awesome.
I would be way too scared to ever fly this thing, though - crashing one of these from altitude is just as destructive as crashing a real one (to the plane, at least). And that's a lot of money down the drain.
The range of my nitro rc track car is as far as you can see. I've taken it out on my golf course and let it go all the way down a par 5 hole to the green to mess with people putting and im sure it could go farther. Nothing throws a put off more than the scream of a nitro car leaping out of a sand trap at an unsuspecting golfer. It's priceless.
But anyways, I'm pretty sure the range is as far as you can see too. The only problem is that it gets really hard to see what its doing when its that far!
Great plane! The sound quality was very poor though. I wonder if there is a site that has the details of the build? I would like to read more details about it...
They are the maker of some of the most powerful turbines for model jets. I just throw in a thrustrange of 0,6 - 12 lb with a RPM range of 50.000 - 160.000 / min. :-O
You do realize that they by now have a government contract. I mean, remote controled F-16s? Thats if the government doesn't already have something simular in production.

For those of you who are big Grand Turismo/Forza/Project Gotham racing fans who would like to try to have the same video game fun but without destroying your real-world full scale car, you should visit a local R/C track...especially if you are in SoCal or Southern Florida where this sport/hobby is at its mecca. See here: http://www.rccaraction.com or http://www.rc411.com
There was a flying scale model B52 here in the UK with the full set of 8 jet engines, at a cost of 2k ($3.6k) per engine. I say 'was' because they crashed it. And then built another one. And then crashed that one too, apparently.
Weak video. There's a park near me with a section devoted to RC airplanes and helicopters, right down to scaled runways. There's always someone there on the weekend flying jets. They are amazingly fast.
Now, add in a 150ft rc range whilst flying 280 mph 20 ft off the ground.. then it's a little more than stressful.
That sucker would pass that range within 0.3 seconds.
Nah, jk.. I wonder what the range would be. Quite and interesting "toy" nevertheless.
The range is limited to your vision. If you can see it, it's still in range. And just so you know, my $35 digital receiver alone has a listening range of 1000 feet, not taking into effect the braodcasting range of the transmitter.
Also the e-turbine mentioned earlier is not a turbine, it's a ducted fan. Not even close to the same thing.
And forget rcuniverse, rcgroups.com is where it's at.
Over 200 mph,go's to 1000 feet plus, really cheap, just great. Now if our Al-Qaeda cousins found that this was a great way to deliver C-4 into a 747 on take off or landing that would be fucking awesome.A poor mans drone.Has no one thought of this before?

I think flying a $10,000 plane at 280mph 20 ft off the ground would be more stressful that it is fun.

Thats not a model. There is a little munchkin in there, trained by the US Air Force.

Seen one of these before...except it looked exactly like an F-15 Eagle...way cooler if you ask me.
Anyone in RC circles would have known about these jets for ages now.

#17 -- They make electric turbines that are ready to fly that provide as much fun without the uber cost. See here: http://www.rc-airplane-world.com/rc-jets.html

God, I really hate people who feel the need to dub shitty music over a turbine.
There's a good video of an RC Concord. Google for "2006-RC_concorde.wmv". You can actually hear the turbine in that one.
And as someone else mentioned, there's a few good videos of a RC B52, including it's crash. Try Googling "B52 006.wmv". Good sound in that one, also.
